Dear Colleagues,
We take pleasure in inviting you, to
join us at the 58th National Conference of Indian Association of
Occupational Health and International Update to be held at Mumbai,
from 22nd to 25th January 2008. The Conference Theme is “Basic
Occupational Health Services in Emerging Economies - Challenges
and Opportunities”. A countrywide series of meetings on this
issue, of the different branches of the IAOH, Governmental agencies
and with international experts in the field of Occupational Health,
Environment and Hygiene, would have preceded this Conference. Only
about 10% of the national workforce has access to Occupational Health
services in India. The proceedings of the meetings, along with those
of the workshops proposed to be held during the course of the conference,
shall be presented to the governmental authorities, as a Blue Print
for short and long term actions, aiming to provide basic occupational
help services to the entire workforce of the nation.
The city of Mumbai, the capital of the
state of Maharashtra, nestled on the western shores of the Arabian
sea, is also considered the commercial capital of India, as is witnessed
by the hustle and bustle of the teeming millions of office goers,
wending their way to their places of work, single handedly contributing
to almost 1/3 of the GNP of the country. It is also a film city
producing reams of fine cinema and television serials, attracting
hordes of histrionic talent to the city from different parts of
the country and the subcontinent. Mumbai city is also famous for
its historic monumentsand beautiful beaches.
Practicing occupational health physicians,
academicians, research scientists, nurses, epidemiologists, ergonomists,
safety specialists, HR managers from industry, trade union representatives
and decision makers will participate in the event.
