Invitation

Dear Colleagues,

We take pleasure in inviting you, to join us at the 58th National Conference of Indian Association of Occupational Health and International Update to be held at Mumbai, from 22nd to 25th January 2008. The Conference Theme is “Basic Occupational Health Services in Emerging Economies - Challenges and Opportunities”. A countrywide series of meetings on this issue, of the different branches of the IAOH, Governmental agencies and with international experts in the field of Occupational Health, Environment and Hygiene, would have preceded this Conference. Only about 10% of the national workforce has access to Occupational Health services in India. The proceedings of the meetings, along with those of the workshops proposed to be held during the course of the conference, shall be presented to the governmental authorities, as a Blue Print for short and long term actions, aiming to provide basic occupational help services to the entire workforce of the nation.

The city of Mumbai, the capital of the state of Maharashtra, nestled on the western shores of the Arabian sea, is also considered the commercial capital of India, as is witnessed by the hustle and bustle of the teeming millions of office goers, wending their way to their places of work, single handedly contributing to almost 1/3 of the GNP of the country. It is also a film city producing reams of fine cinema and television serials, attracting hordes of histrionic talent to the city from different parts of the country and the subcontinent. Mumbai city is also famous for its historic monumentsand beautiful beaches.

Practicing occupational health physicians, academicians, research scientists, nurses, epidemiologists, ergonomists, safety specialists, HR managers from industry, trade union representatives and decision makers will participate in the event.
